iKey

Description

iKey is a concept that was created for the IoT hackathon at JCU. It is a concept for a keyless doorsystem that ensures safety using face recognition and voice recognition.

By using an app, clients can open doors by speaking the password into the app that detect voices. Furthermore, a camera installed at the front door can recognize the person's face. We used a Raspberry Pie connected with a camera to demonstrate the face recognition. If the face and voice matches, it will allow the person inside the house. The app has also a live stream and notifies the owner if someone comes home or if a unrecognized face is detected. Besides using the app, the client can connect the iKey system with a fitbit that tracks the location of the wearer. If the location and face matches, then access is granted.

Game Projects

In Darkness

Description

In Darkness is a single player horror game.
This game was created with a team of 4 using Unity and Maya. I participated as the game and level designer, 3D modeller, and animator of the demon, as well as designer of the menu.

Gameplay

The player plays a little girl that has been trapped in the mansion and must escape before the demon catches her. To escape, the player has to find all candles (which are randomly placed each game) and blow them out. For this, a special implementation allows players to blow physically into their microphone to blow the candles out. This will break the spell that is put on the front door.
The player can also use crosses to scare the demon away. This gives the player more time, however, the crosses are limited and only usable once.

Tools

Wired

Description

Wired is a game created during the Retro Game Jam 2019, a 48-hour competition where teams of students develop a complete game. The theme for this competition was "Cyborg and Humans" to honor our special guest Michael Pondsmith, the author of Cyberpunk.

Gameplay

Wired is a pixel speed run game, where the player can choose between a human or cyborg. The human runs faster but the cyborg can jump higher. The game has three levels with increasing difficulty and speed. I designed the pixel characters with Aesprite where I also did their animations and some of the obstacles. All levels were designed using Unity.

Tools

Spider Demon

Description

This Chinese Spider Demon is from the character project during my Bachelor.

I took some inspiration from Darksouls' Quelaag, a half spider half woman creature. In my design, I added a gaping mouth on her stomach that contains three layers of teeth inside. Her crown symbolizes that she is the queen of her territory and I decided to give her a geisha-style look.

I modelled this creature in Maya and later added veins, pores and other rough details in zBrush. Later I used the materials in zBrush to texture each part differently, as some parts are more slimy and some have a sheen.

Tools

Tools

Pacman Diamond Rush

Description

Pacman Diamond Rush was an AI project and the task was to create an AI script for the ghosts. For this my team decided to program the ghost to wander around randomly and then pursue Pacman when he is close enough.
To give it some variety, one ghost has a different code and tries to persue the player directly to give the player more stress. The game was build in Unity and the ghost, diamonds and pacman are modelled in Maya and the settings where taken from the Unity Store.

Gameplay

You play as Pacman and need to collect at least 100 diamonds to get to the next level. There are three levels: Grassland, Farm, and Castle. If you get caught by the ghost, you spawn at your starting point. If you die 3 times then your game is over!

Tools

Peitho

Description

For this project I had to create a low poly character similarly to League of Legends characters. I had to recreate Peitho, who is the greek goddess of persuasion. As a LOL character she has the ability to persuade enemies to fight on her side for an amount of time and her pet, a poisonous snake, can poison enemies with her fangs. She also has the special skill called "Sisterhood" to increase the strenght of her friends in a battle. Peitho was created in Maya and handpainted and textured using photoshop.

Tools

Kara

Kara is an animation project that I did for my master course. The idea is to create an environment, a character and then a scene that needs to be rendered.

It tells the story of Kara, a fighter who battles against machines that have attacked their cities. One night she dreams of her last battle, where she suffered severe injuring and doctors could only save her life by giving her a biomechanicle body. Although it saved her life, her hate for machines grew stronger.

Activities

Hackathon

Hackathon Participation in 2019 at James Cook University.

I participated in the Hackathon with three other students from James Cook University and won the first prize with our iKey Concept.
This Hackathon was a 48hr challenge with the theme "Internet of Things".

For the theme we decided to create an app called iKey that offers a better door security system. I created an app in Android Studio (first time using this tool!) and added Google voice recognition, so that the user can say the password and unlock the door. The app will write out the word on the display and then check if the password is correct. If the password is correct, the lock icon on the app will change to an open lock image.

Game Jam

Game Jam Participation in 2009 at James Cook University.
